HIT

The Hellenic National Institute of Transport (HIT) is the National Organisation devoted to the promotion and execution of Transport research in Greece. It was established in March 2000, by Presidential Decree and forms part of the National, Centre for Research and Technology Development Hellas (CERTH). It is a “private status” legal entity under the supervision of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Ministry of Industry, Research and Technology. It is based in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The basic scope of services of HIT is to provide a centre of excellence in the field of Transport with highly specialised research services offered to government and third party organisations and bodies, and providing support for the conduct of Transport research in Greece.


Dr. Panos Papaioannou

 

Professional Transportation Engineer and Surveyor

 

He is Assistant Professor at the Transport Section. School of Technology, University of Thessaloniki and at the same time he is Principal Consultant for major Greek Transportation Consulting firms.

He has participated as local Technical Manager in many European Research projects since 1989. Since 1982, he has been involved in more than 50 transportation projects covering a wide range of areas. During the last 6 years he was also involved in GIS related projects.

He is the author of more than 50 papers published in magazines or proceedings of International and Greek Conferences.

Prof. Dr. Kyriakos K. Papaioannou

 

Professional Civil Engineer

 

He is a Professor in Building Construction and Materials in Civil Engineering at the School of Technology, University of Thessaloniki and at the same he is a visiting Professor at University of Thessaly. He is a member of the following Technical Bodies/Learned Societies. He is also a Nominated European fire expert (No E 13278 H) and President of the Board of the Greek Chartered Surveyors Body. He has worked as consultant construction engineer since 1968 designing a lot of buildings He has been actively involved in fire design of buildings since 1975. He is the author of more than 50 technical papers published in Greek and international journals and proceedings and four books on the topics of construction, environment and fire.
