VGTU

VGTU, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) is the second largest technical university of Lithuania having over 9000 students and 8 faculties. 210 students are engaged in PhD studies. Researchers of VGTU have carried out research in fields related to the UPTUN project. The Department of Bridges and Special Structures is involved into research and teaching on tunnels and other so called special structures. In relation to the UPTUN project, the tunnel passage of 1283 m for train connection between Vilnius and Kaunas, the two largest cities of Lithuania, badly needs upgrading and reconstruction.


Dr. Habil, Prof. Gintaris Kaklauskas

 

Head of Department

 

Head of Department of Bridges and Special Structures. Following graduation in Civil Engineering from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University in 1982, he joined the same institution and obtained PhD and Habil. Dr. (Dr. Sc.) in 1990 and 2000. Previously has been working as a professor at the Department of Reinforced Concrete and Masonry Structures. He has proposed a new method for deriving constitutive models of composite flexural structures and developed a new constitutive model for deformational analysis of RC members. He has developed a neural network based constitutive modelling technique for RC structures.

Dr. Povilas Vianiunas

 

Dean of Faculty of Civil Engineering

 

PhD (1970) from Kaunas Politechnical Institute (presently Kaunas Technological University). Chairman of national group of Int. Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE). Former vice-president (1992-1995) and board member (since 1995) of Association of European Civil Engineering Faculties (AECEF). Chairman of scientific committee of biennial int. conf. "Modern building materials, structures and techniques" held at VGTU, Lithuania.
